The foundation of the entire Ben Nevis family of Single Malts defines their signature style.

The Ben Nevis Distillery was founded in 1825 by the legendary "Long John" MacDonald. Since day one they have used spring water percolating up in two nearby pools — Coire Leis and Coire na’Ciste. The distillery stayed in family hands until 1955 when it was acquired by Joseph Hobbs who updated to new copper Coffey stills. Since 1989 it has been owned by the famous Japanese Whisky company Nikka who leave it be to continue producing fine Highland Single Malt.

Ben Nevis 10 Year Old is a classic Single Malt in the western Highlands style — which means a bit more spice than its Speyside cousins. It has been matured a full decade in ex-Bourbon casks overlooking the River Lochy at the foot of the great mountain. This ten-year-old dram is the foundation of the line upon which their profile is built — with its signature dry, malty, leafy, and nutty character.

Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the British Isles, rising 4,423 feet above sea level in the central Highlands near Fort William. It used to be higher, but what remains is the collapsed dome of an ancient volcano that exploded ~350 million years ago.
