This fully assembled and tested board comes with a 20-20KHz electret microphone soldered on. For the amplification, we use the Maxim MAX4466, an op-amp specifically designed for this delicate task! The amplifier has excellent power supply noise rejection, so this amplifier sounds really good and isn't nearly as noisy or scratchy as other mic amp breakouts we've tried!

This breakout is best used for projects such as voice changers, audio recording/sampling, and audio-reactive projects that use FFT. On the back, we include a small trimmer pot to adjust the gain. You can set the gain from 25x to 125x. That's down to be about 200mVpp (for normal speaking volume about 6" away) which is good for attaching to something that expects 'line level' input without clipping, or up to about 1Vpp, ideal for reading from a microcontroller ADC. The output is rail-to-rail so if the sounds get loud, the output can go up to 5Vpp!

Using it is simple: connect GND to ground, VCC to 2.4-5VDC. For the best performance, use the "quietest" supply available (on an Arduino, this would be the 3.3V supply). The audio waveform will come out of the OUT pin. The output will have a DC bias of VCC/2 so when it's perfectly quiet, the voltage will be a steady VCC/2 volt (it is DC coupled). If the audio equipment you're using requires AC-coupled audio, place a 100uF capacitor between the output pin and the input of your device. If you're connecting to an audio amplifier that has differential inputs or includes decoupling capacitors, the 100uF cap is not required.

The output pin is not designed to drive speakers or anything but the smallest in-ear headphones - you'll need an audio amplifier (such as our 3.7W stereo amp) if you want to connect the amp directly to speakers. If you're connecting to a microcontroller pin, you don't need an amplifier or decoupling capacitor - connect the OUT pin directly to the microcontroller ADC pin.

For audio-reactive Arduino projects, we suggest using an FFT driver library (such as the one in this library) which can take the audio input and 'translate' it into frequencies. Also, check out this awesome Voice Changer project that uses this mic and an Adafruit Wave Shield!

If you're using with CircuitPython, this audio-reactive pendant project is pretty easy and works great with any CircuitPython board.

Specifications

PCB thickness - 1.60mm

Measurement including the Microphone - 7.8mm

Resources

EagleCAD PCB files on GitHub

MAX4466 Low-Noise Microphone Amp Datasheet

Electret Capsule Microphone Datasheet

Fritzing object in Fritzing library

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0946/9486/7220/files/electret-microphone-amplifier---max4466-with-adjustable-gain_1.jpg?v=1787257108
extra-long-force-sensitive-resistor-fsr-interlink-408-discontinued
Extra-long Force-sensitive Resistor (FSR) (Interlink 408) [Discontinued]

FSRs are sensors that allow you to detect physical pressure, squeezing and weight. They are simple to use and low cost. This sensor is a Interlink model 408 FSR with a massive 1/4-inch x 24-inch sensing region. You can press anywhere along the strip and the pressure will be recognized. Note that this sensor can't detect where on the strip you pressed (for that, check out our ribbon soft pots).

FSRs are basically a resistor that changes its resistive value (in ohms Ω) depending on how much its pressed. These sensors are fairly low cost, and easy to use but they're rarely accurate. They also vary some from sensor to sensor perhaps 10%. So basically when you use FSRs you should only expect to get ranges of response. While FSRs can detect weight, they're a bad choice for detecting exactly how many pounds of weight are on them.

FSRs are made of plastic and the connection tab is crimped on delicate material. The best way to connect to these is to simply plug them into a breadboard or use a clamp-style connector like alligator clips, female header, or a terminal block. It is possible to solder onto the tabs but you must be very fast because if your iron is not good quality or you dally even a few seconds, you will melt the plastic and ruin the FSR! Don't attempt to solder directly to your FSR unless you are absolutely sure you have the skills to do so.

For a full tutorial with wiring diagrams, code examples and project ideas, please read the FSR tutorial page!

Technical Details

Dimensions:

Length: 24in/609.6mm

Width: 15.33mm/0.6in

Thickness: 0.57mm/0.023in

Weight: 5.03g/0.177oz

The FSR datasheet contains force/resistance graphs, diagrams, etc!

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0946/9486/7220/files/extra-long-force-sensitive-resistor-fsr-interlink-408-discontinued_1.jpg?v=1787257109
heart-rate-educational-starter-pack-with-polar-wireless-sensors-discontinued
Heart Rate Educational Starter Pack with Polar Wireless Sensors [Discontinued]

Read wireless heart-rate data into your electronics projects in under 10 minutes with this educational experimentation kit for Polar wireless heart rate bands. It does away with clunky mechanical floats, and easily interfaces with electronic control systems. The eTape sensor's envelope is compressed by the hydrostatic pressure of the fluid in which it is immersed. This results in a change in resistance that corresponds to the distance from the top of the sensor to the surface of the fluid. The sensor's resistive output is inversely proportional to the height of the liquid: the lower the liquid level, the higher the output resistance; the higher the liquid level, the lower the output resistance.

This is a very unique sensor. Compared to most NTC/PTC thermistors, the PT type of RTD is much most stable and precise (but also more expensive) PT1000's have been used to measure temperature in laboratory and industrial processes, and have developed a reputation for accuracy (better than thermocouples), repeatability, and stability.

This high-temperature PT1000 sensor is equipped with a 316L stainless steel shield (try saying that five times fast!) that is good for up to 550°C.

PT1000 features:

Based on resistance measurement principles

Resistor material is Platinum with a value of 1000 ohm at temperature 0°C

Platinum has a positive resistance temperature factor; resistance increases with rising temperature

Resistance variation is a function of temperature: 3.85Ω/°C nominal

High accuracy and stability compared to thermocouples, silicon-based temperature sensors, or thermistors

Each sensor comes with three wires. Two of the wires connect to either side of the platinum resistor like you'd expect. If you want to connect a bunch of sensors without worrying about I2C address collisions, go with SPI.

This sensor has a relative accuracy of 8 Pascals, which translates to about ± 0.5 meters of altitude (compared to the BMP280's 12 Pascal/ ±1 meter). The datasheet sort of implies they intend this sensor to be used for drones and quadcopters, to keep altitude stable, but you could also use this for wearables or any project that wants to track height above sea level. Note that for absolute height you'll still need to enter the barometric pressure at sea level if the weather changes, but that's true of every altimeter sensor that uses pressure. You can control the IR LED and turn it on to transmit IR light across the gap, to the detector on the other side. This makes it perfect for detecting when something is in the slot. When there's something blocking the light, the sensor turns off, when the object goes away, the sensor receives the IR light and turns on.

These sensors are handy when you want to detect if something has passed through the sensor slot, we think it's great when paired with our slotted encoder wheels - as you can see we have a demo that will count the number of transitions (slots) over a second, extrapolate that to RPM, and display on an OLED. A LIDAR is a sensor that can detect distance precisely, using a laser. Unlike Time-of-Flight sensors, LIDARs are incredibly fast. Unlike sonar/ultrasonic sensors, they're very precise, measuring the point exactly ahead.

Now, because you can get accurate distance measurements at high speeds, you can put the LIDAR sensor on a spinning motor. The laser shoots out thousands of times a second, and when correlated with the angular location, can create a 2D 'map' of obstacles and walls. Normally, LIDAR sensors are outside the budget of hobby/maker robots, but the Slamtec is a great price and is an excellent choice for many robots or interactive projects.

This laser scanner development kit can perform 360-degree scans within a 12-meter range. You can configure it for 2-10 Hz sample rate (that's for an entire rotation). Out of the box you'll get 0.2cm distance resolution, 1 degree angular resolution and 12 meter range.

The sensor comes with a onboard connector with power and data pins. You can power from 5V, and data is 3V logic "TTL" serial. You could in theory power and communicate directly over the serial pins, but for most computers, it will be a lot easier to use a USB cable and connect to the included USB-serial converter dongle. The sensor includes a dual-use sensor module from Sensirion in a sintered metal mesh encasing. The casing is weatherproof and will keep water from seeping into the body of the sensor and damaging it, but allows air to pass through so that it can measure the humidity outside. While it is designed to be submersible in water, it's always best to avoid long-term submersion (over 1 hour at a time), and it obviously would only give you temperature readings. Instead, its a time-of-flight (ToF) infrared sensor like the VL53L0X. That said, it's easy to use, and since it spits out the data directly over serial, you don't need a complex driver as long as you have a serial port available. If you're using with a computer rather than a microcontroller, you can plug this into a USB console cable and run our Python library to read sensor distance data.

These kinds of Time of Flight sensors are really common in robotics or UAV projects, but they can also be used for automation, interactive art, and motion sensing. This sensor sits in line with your water line and uses a pinwheel sensor to measure how much liquid has moved through it. The pinwheel has a little magnet attached, and there's a hall effect magnetic sensor on the other side of the plastic tube that can measure how many spins the pinwheel has made through the plastic wall. This method allows the sensor to stay safe and dry.

The sensor comes with a JST PH 2mm pitch connector and three wires: red (5-15VDC), black (ground), and yellow (Hall effect pulse output).
