And last but not least, they've got Malt Master \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eDavid C. Stewart MBE, \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003eone of the industry most experienced experts who joined Balvanie in \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e1962 \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003eat 17 and is still overseeing the production of the most hand-crafted of Single Malts.\u003cbr\u003e\r\n\u003cbr\u003e\r\n\u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe Balvenie 12 Year Old Doublewood\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e is one of their most popular creations. First launched in 1993 by the one and only David Stewart, this dram was quite the revolution back in the day, using the\u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e 'wood finishing' process \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003eStewart designed in 1982 – doublewood. So, what's it all about? First, the brown stuff spends at least 12 years in traditional \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eex-Bourbon barrels,\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e then, it's moved to\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cem\u003e ex-Oloroso Sherry casks \u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003efor another 9 months. Finally, individual casks are \"married\" in large tuns for 3-4 months.
